Position Description |
The Senior Geologist is a seasoned technical professional with broad technical skills. He/she works in an integrated team, providing sound geological expertise in the evaluation of exploration opportunities in which the company can participate. The Senior Geologist has proven competencies and is responsible for handling complex geological/geophysical assignments independently. He/she receives work in terms of broad objectives, and is relied upon to deliver key results. At times, the Senior Geologist may provide leadership on assignments requiring broad knowledge of geology and geophysics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilites |
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- As a senior technical staff member, proposes and carries out complex assignments independently with minimal day-to-day direction from supervisor.
- Carries out extensive detailed mapping on 3D or 2D seismic data, analyzing seismic attributes, and preparing detailed structural, stratigraphic, and amplitude maps.
- Evaluates 2D and 3D seismic data sets for hydrocarbon potential and makes recommendations for future exploration efforts based on technical and business experience.
- Recommends purchase or disposition of leases based on integrated geological and geophysical information; major contributor to lease sale evaluation efforts.
- Recommends major areas of future exploration efforts.
- Recommends areas for future seismic data acquisition.
- As a senior technical staff member, provides insights into competitor technical efforts and exploration strategies recommending ways for Our Client to exploit opportunities.
- Generates/recommends opportunities for drilling to management.
- Matures prospects to drill ready status, working with support departments (drilling, land, development, production, etc.) to ensure all processes are adhered to and that the highest quality drilling program is prepared.
- Participates in peer-based risk and resource estimation processes; ensures such processes are adhered to in conducting his/her evaluations; seeks input from peers to ensure technical high quality is achieved in evaluations.
- As required, evaluates farm-in opportunities, making recommendations to management on participation.
- Initiates and directs major geological studies.
- Develops geological models from well logs, cross-sections and maps; constructs geological maps from well logs and seismic data.
- Maintains practical familiarity with current salt tectonics research, and applies those concepts to geologic and seismic interpretation within complex and challenging environments.
- Integrates deepwater depositional concepts, biostratigraphic data, log character, and seismic data to develop interpretation of depositional environment and facies distributions. Incorporates sequence stratigraphic concepts to construct paleogeographic maps illustrating salt features and sediment fairways.
- Directs preparation of geological maps.
- Estimates oil reserves in proven or prospective fields, and consults with Petroleum Engineers concerning drilling and production methods.
- Estimates hydrocarbon resource size in generated prospects and performs related risk assessments.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary team following exploratory well drilling operations to evaluate results.
- Provides mentoring and technical assistance to junior staff.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
There are no direct supervisory responsibilities; however, he/she may act as leader of small groups of technical personnel and provide technical guidance to lower-level geologists.

Qualifications |

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in Geology or Geophysics, or a Bachelor degree with experience commensurate to a Master’s degree, is REQUIRED.
- Minimum of 10 years professional oil and gas exploration and development experience working with or in a business unit cross-functional team or technology group.
- Deepwater experience is preferred, with strong preference for Gulf of Mexico expertise.
- Similar deepwater experience in other Frontier Basins would be considered.
- Familiarity with depth-imaging technology a plus.
- Must Be a proven prospect generator.
- Must Be able to work in highly charged, fast-paced work environment, and be able to handle multiple projects at once.
