- Base Salary Range between $140-150K and nothing higher than $200 K (Please note that this is “my” best guess as to the comp. base. My client’s compensation department will only discuss comp. specifics once a client begins to get into the interview process. They have been in this business a good while and know what an appropriate base salary is for this position).

Our client is an oil and gas exploration and production company with operations in the Gulf of Mexico, one of the most attractive hydrocarbon basins in the world. They have a management team noted for its technical expertise, an incomparable asset suite, and the financial support of their international corporate headquarters.
Their deepwater drilling campaign is starting in the fall of 2009 with the drilling of a deepwater appraisal well with a TD of 33,000 ft in 3,500 ft of water. Shortly after that well is completed, they will be into a 1.5 rigs/year, deepwater, subsalt exploration drilling program. Drilling engineering staff members are now being recruited to support that program.

Job Details
|
Responsible for conducting day-to-day wellsite geological responsibilities involved with the G & G Operations Group. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Reports to the G & G Operations Supervisor and to the Drill Site Supervisors regarding daily status of drilling and completion operations and related recommendations.
- Ensures the Drill Site Supervisors are kept up-to-date on all pertinent geological related activities during drilling operations, including correlations, real-time Pore Pressure and Wellbore Stability Analysis, and all formation evaluation issues.
- Responsible for generating daily geological reports on actively drilling wells. These reports will be comprehensive in nature and follow established guidelines of the Company G & G Operations Group.
- Responsible for monitoring all data sources during drilling operations to conduct and keep up-to-date a real-time Pore Pressure and Wellbore Stability Analysis using the proper software. Generates up-to-date Pore Pressure and Wellbore Stability displays and ensures this data is reported on the daily geological report.
- Responsible for the day-to-day monitoring of wellsite activities by third party vendors conducting Surface Logging (Mudlogging) including QA/QC of daily reports and logs, and sample descriptions.
- Responsible for the day-to-day monitoring of wellsite activities by third party vendors conducting MWD/LWD logging services including QA/QC of daily reports, logs and directional reports.
- Responsible for the day-to-day monitoring of wellsite activities by third party vendors conducting Wireline Logging operations including QA/QC of each wireline related log run, generating required reports as required.
- Responsible to ensure that wellsite paleo analyses, if applicable, are carried out by the wellsite paleontologist and reported on the daily geological report.
- Responsible in conjunction with other team members that all data generated from drilling operations is captured and stored within the directed databases in a timely and accurate fashion.
- Responsible for participating in post-well audits and reviews and providing input as required to these post-well activities. Ensures that all End-of-Well Reports and documentation is completed within 45 days of rig release from any given drilling project.
- Ensures that all defined processes are followed for the planning, execution and post-well audits for all drilling and completions operations of the Company in the Gulf of Mexico.
- Follows Company health, safety and environmental protection policies and adheres to MMS regulations, as well as all state and federal regulatory agencies such as EPA, Corp of Engineers, USCG, etc.
- Participates with the G & G Operations team decision process and management of change process to recommend alternate courses of action in situations which require the Company to deviate from planned drilling/completions program.

- Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or Geophysics
- A minimum of 10 years well-rounded field experience in G & G related operations in regards to drilling operations.
- Offshore experience in the Gulf of Mexico is Required, along with Deepwater experience.
- Strong communication, organizational, leadership, integration, management and interpersonal skills required.
- Must Have demonstrated effectiveness in problem solving.
