From the largest metropolitan city to the most critical power plant, our client’s products work behind the scenes maintaining the infrastructure, improving air quality, non-destructively excavating, recycling, cleaning, and maintaining the environment.

They make it their business to know the application as well as the engineering and manufacturing of their products. Their staff of engineers, service technicians, and training professionals work hand-in-hand with their customers and local partners to provide personal training, start-up, and aftermarket support.

The Strategic Procurement Manager will lead Supply Chain Strategy and Procurement activities of the Purchasing Department.  The manager has direct reporting responsibilities for a team of procurement professionals and is responsible for the delivery and performance of the team to the business.  

The position has change management and process development elements to instill best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.  The manager will plan, direct and coordinate all procurement activities to limit costs and improve lead times, quality, and customer service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Implements strategic procurement function alongside transactional purchasing team.

    • Facilitates the shift from business unit transactional purchasing to collaborative group acquisition strategy.  Work proactively across departments to create strategy, fully understand product requirements and ensure OEM items meet delivery dates.

  • Leads departmental strategic initiatives focused on systemic improvements to ensure achievement of corporate objectives.

  • Establish department KPI’s with performance goals to monitor department and supply base on historical and projected performance.

  • Supplier Management: 

    • Identify, qualify, and select vendors.

    • Develop a supplier onboarding and management process that ensures vendor capability, capacity, and performance through meaningful feedback and continuous communication of expectations.

    • Lead supplier negotiations on spend.  Challenge vendor pricing.  Initiate and monitor cost savings projects.

    • Negotiate and set up private label opportunities with vendors.

    • Manage supplier risk – develop alternate vendor sources; monitor industry trends; track supplier performance and spend.

    • Set expectations and drive behavior within the purchasing team to manage suppliers on a daily basis.

  • Prepares and reviews contracts, bids, proposals and vendor agreements for legal correctness, price and acceptability of items to specifications. 

  • Analyzes market and delivery conditions to ensure present and future material availability at competitive cost.

  • Develops reporting and budgets based on supply and demand, market dynamics and other requirements.

  • Administratively manages the department including: budgeting, personnel development and evaluation, departmental structure, and allocation of workload and responsibilities.

  • Develops, maintains, and implements instructions regarding purchasing systems and procedures to drive efficiencies and reduce cost. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management or comparable program required.  Master’s Degree in Business or Supply Chain Management highly PREFERRED.

  • Professional certification (CCP, CPIM, APICS, etc) highly PREFERRED.

  • Minimum of Five Years in a procurement leadership role, including personnel management.  

  • Minimum of Ten Years purchasing experience REQUIRED, including Three Years of experience in vendor contract negotiations and price variation analysis.  Experience in capital equipment manufacturing industry highly PREFERRED.   

  • Proven ability to achieve cost savings and to meet department and company targets.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees.  

  • Ability to create and maintain effective supplier relationships. 

  • Ability to drive issues to closure in a professional and compliant manner.

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing techniques highly preferred.

  • Must Be Analytic – compile, analyze and present data.  Proven ability to use data to develop and execute strategy.  

  • Familiar and supportive of technology and automation.  MRP/ERP software experience REQUIRED.  Working knowledge of advanced features in Microsoft Office suite.   Advanced user of Excel – creating complex spreadsheets, formulas, etc.

  • Availability for occasional travel as necessary.

COMPENSATION

  • Competitive Base Wage ($80-130+ DOE)
