POSITION SUMMARY
Our client is seeking a Sr. Geotechnical Engineer for their Washington State HQ. The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in geotechnical engineering principles and will play a key role in the design, analysis, and construction of infrastructure projects. This is a leadership role and one of the responsibilities is working with younger Geotechnical Engineers as a mentor.
As the Sr. Geotechnical Engineer, you will be working with the Owner of our client’s business and assisting in the development of New Business for our client.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts;
Conduct geotechnical site investigations, including soil sampling, field testing, and laboratory testing to determine soil properties and site conditions.
Assist in business development efforts, preparation of proposals and cost estimates;
Analyze and interpret data from geotechnical investigations to assess the stability of foundations, slopes, and retaining walls;
Participates in development of technical proposals;
Serve as the Project’s point of contact with clients, agencies and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals;
Identifies discrepancies in results;
Plan, supervise, and lead civil / geotechnical investigations and design activities;
Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers all civil engineered systems or products for a project;
Perform geotechnical analysis using advanced software tools to assess soil behavior and settlement, bearing capacity, and slope stability;
Evaluate site conditions for potential hazards (e.g., liquefaction, landslides) and provide mitigation strategies;
Stay current with industry trends, standards, and new technologies in geotechnical engineering.
Provides technical leadership for civil related projects, including the management of existing client relationships and bringing in new clients;
Performs on technically complex projects and acts as a technical resource by providing guidance to other team members;
Perform and review geotechnical engineering analyses;
Project management including scope, budget, schedule and resource management;
Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers;
Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures;
Serves as Engineer-of-Record
QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent communication, leadership, mentoring, writing, interpersonal and presentation skills;
Must Have a Minimum of Six (6) Years of experience in geotechnical engineering, including site investigations, soil testing and foundation design;
Nice to Have Nondestructive Testing Experience;
PDA (Pile Driving Analyzer) Experience; PIT (Trial or Test Pit) knowledge and experience; TIP (Thermal Integrity Profiling)--Preferred
Very good understanding of drilling methods, field investigations, and laboratory testing procedures;
BS or MS in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering;
Engineer In Training (EIT) or Professional Engineering (PE) license or in progress.
Demonstrated Project Management skills including scheduling and budgeting and the ability to lead, train and mentor junior staff;
Minimum of six years of experience in geotechnical engineering, including site investigations, soil;
Experience with geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Settle3D, MathCAD) is a plus.
Appropriate experience in design, contract and tender preparation, tender assessment, site supervision, and administration;
Ability to travel to sites as needed;
Extensive oil sands experience, particularly related to tailings and dyke design would be an asset;
MSc Engineering Geology, Geotechnical or Civil Engineering or similar; (a PLUS)
PM Experience; Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively;
Demonstrated ability to develop excellent client relationships, a positive staff working environment, and new business opportunities;
Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, foundation design, slope stability, and earthworks.
Experience writing Earthworks and foundation designs;
Interpretation of Ground investigations;
A career spent in the geotechnical consulting industry is preferred;
DESIRED SKILLS
Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
Experience with geotechnical design for infrastructure projects, including highways, bridges, and commercial developments-a PLUS.
Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (ASTM, AASHTO, etc.).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
COMPENSATION
Base Salary: $160K—200K (DOE—Base could go higher for the right individual)
